pepto-bismol pink (2016)

For clarinet in Bb and electric guitar. 5 minutes 50 seconds.

As I looked around my cluttered desk trying to think of a name for this piece, the color of the Pepto-Bismol to the right of my computer caught my eye. It’s not a very attractive color, but since that medicine worked for me — for indigestion or the daily nausea and anxiety of existence at that time — it carries connotations of comfort and fast results.

D.J. Sparr has played this piece with Stephanie Key (in the above performance with SOLI Chamber Ensemble) and with Carlos Cordeiro. In an upcoming performance, clarinettist Kate Kilgus and I will play the piece in a Cincinnati New Music program.
